Ten Steps to a Resume
with Impact

|
Tip
|
Detail.....
|
| 1. Do your research |
If you are applying for a specific
position find out as much as you can about the company - try
the Internet, product brochures or the company's annual report. |
| 2. Dig deep |
Before preparing your resume, list
your previous jobs and main responsibilities, then pick and
choose the most relevant. You may surprise yourself. |
| 3. Tailor it |
Include only relevant experience
and consider your target audience - are they conservative or
creative? |
| 4. Keep it brief |
Two pages if possible. The person
reviewing your resume will thank you. |
| 5. Summarise |
Provide a short summary statement
about yourself and your ambitions. |
| 6. Detail your achievements |
Back up your claims with specifics
about major projects and hardcore results. |
| 7. Be reader friendly |
Use headings, white space, bullet
points and tables and avoid excessive jargon or abbreviations. |
| 8. Logical flow |
Set out your work and academic history
in a logical, chronological manner. |
| 9. Provide references |
Or indicate that they are available
on request. |
| 10. Proof it |
Don't rely on spell checkers! Call
and check the spelling of names and titles for your covering
letter. Get someone else to double-check your spelling and grammar. |
