Sales Preference Indicator
Many professional organisations acknowledge the importance of having a strong sales force and culture. Yet, traditionally there has been a lack of mechanisms to assess the calibre of existing and potential employees to engage in promotional activities. The Sales Preference Indicator was developed specifically for corporate organisations in which intellectual capital, services or products are being promoted or sold. The Sales Preference Indicator is the result of a number of years of research by psychologists and was first published in 2001. The Sales Preference Indicator measures core dimensions of sales activity and is supported by research cross validating the constructs with proven sales performance indicators.

What the Sales Preference Indicator Measures
This Indicator is designed to measure six key dimensions of sales activity that are distinct from more general measures of personality. The scales are Adaptive Selling, Emotional Objectivity, Sales Persona, Networking, Organisational Focus and Competitiveness. The Sales Preference Indicator has three response style measures these include Social Desirability, Central Tendency and Acquiescence. The questionnaire consists of 68 questions and takes 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

What is Reported
The report provides both a narrative script and graphical representation of each core dimension. The easy to read narrative defines each dimension, provides candidate results and gives the decision maker guidelines for motivating and managing the respondent in relation to the dimension. An overall summary scale is also provided giving a graphical representation of the general sales potential of the respondent.

B3. Technical Test Batteries (Aimed at Assessing Technical Ability)

Consisting of a number of diagrams that exemplify basic mechanical and physical principles, the test involves choosing the diagram that correctly represents the underlying law of Physics. The items have been selected to represent mechanical principles from a wide range of areas (including optics, electrics, fluids and mechanics), so users can be confident they are measuring a broad range of aptitude including mechanical comprehension.

Verbal Reasoning
Measures verbal fluency, vocabulary and the ability to understand and reason using words, this test is appropriate for all jobs which require a high level of verbal ability.

C. Management Test Battery (C1 & C2)

C1. General Management Reasoning Test (Aimed at Middle Management)
^ top
* Includes Full Personality Profile, Values & Motives Questionnaire and Graduate Ability Testing
(For details on Graduate Ability Testing – see the definition detailed in the B1Test Battery)

A comprehensive test battery which has been designed to assess reasoning ability (graduate level), full personality, values and management style – equivalent to the Myers-Briggs MBTI Typing.

Management Style Indicator
This instrument assesses personality within the framework of Jung’s type theory of personality. In addition to classifying a person’s type this test provides scores for each of the type dimensions, offering a more detailed description of the candidate’s personality than is provided by most type indicators.

What is Measured?
The Jung Type Indicator assesses a person’s psychological type using the categories first proposed by the Swiss Psychologist C G Jung. These are (E1) Extroversion vs Introversion, (TF) Thinking vs Feeling and (SN) Sensing vs Intuiting. An additional scale, (JP) Judging- Perceiving reflects whether the respondent adopts a judging attitude (thinking or feeling) or a perceptive attitude (sensing or intuition) towards the world. Measuring a person’s thinking style and the way they deal with information and how they will interact in a group setting, makes this indicator particularly useful as a predictor of behaviour for those in management positions

* This is also a useful tool for team development, management progression and career development.

C2. Executive Reasoning Tests (Aimed at Senior Management Level)
^ top
* Includes Full Personality Profile, Values & Motives Questionnaire and the Management Style Indicator (see C1 for details)

Critical Reasoning Ability
Providing a detailed and accurate measure of critical reasoning this battery consists of Verbal Critical Reasoning and Numerical Critical Reasoning tests. Specifically designed for senior management assessment, the passages and tables, which form the basis of these critical reasoning tests, have been designed to reflect current, real world issues, thus avoiding the artificiality of some test formats. Consisting of tasks that are much closer to typical management functions than most traditional reasoning test items, this test is ideal for selecting and developing high calibre management staff.

Verbal Critical Reasoning
This test directly assesses the ability to understand semi-technical reports and accurately draw logical conclusions and inferences from such written information. Consequently, it forms a key assessment device for all managerial and professional jobs that require quick and reliable interpretation of written reports and appropriate decision making.

Numerical Critical Reasoning
This test directly measures the ability to understand and critically evaluate a wide range of numerical information presented in tabular form, and the accurate use of this information in a logical way. Consequently, it forms a key assessment device for all managerial positions, which require a detailed understanding of financial, numerical and statistical data.

D. Personality & Values Profiles Only - Test Battery

D1. Supplementary Battery (Personality Profile & Values Questionnaire Only)
^ top
* Includes Full Personality Profile and the Values & Motives Questionnaire

Suitable for all roles when only Personality and Culture fit are of concern and no ability testing is required.

Personality Profile Questionnaire 15FQ+
(Included as part of the Test Batteries for A1, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, D1, E1, E2, E3, O1 & O2)

A modern alternative to the 16PF, this questionnaire measures the fifteen personality dimensions assessed by Cattell’s original questionnaire, with the exception of Factor B (intelligence) due to the difficulty in assessing mental ability using an untimed test. This factor has been replaced with a more robust measure assessing an individual’s level of confidence. Designed to measure the 16PF personality factors more reliably and using up-to-date and occupationally sensitive items, the 15FQ+ is the ideal broad ranging personality assessment questionnaire. Building upon Cattell’s pioneering research, the questionnaire has been developed to have all the advantages of the 16PF, yet avoid the problems of low reliability and face-validity associated with many of the 16PF scales.

Comprehensive Report
This Personality Profile includes a report on:

  • Interpersonal Style
  • Thinking Style
  • Coping Style
  • Team Role Behaviour & Preferences
  • Leadership Style and Fit
  • Subordinate Style and Fit
  • Career (Occupational) Orientation
  • Strengths and Development Areas
  • Validity Measures
  • Potential Strengths
  • Potential Development Areas

Values and Motives Questionnaire
(Included as part of the Test Batteries for A1, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, D1, E1, E2, E3, O1 & O2)

This is a normative self-report questionnaire which profiles the motivating forces that are likely to determine the amount of energy or effort that an individual is likely to expend in particular activities. When used as part of an assessment battery for selection, development, guidance and team-building it can assist in directing individuals into areas where they are likely to gain most satisfaction and make the greatest contribution.

What the Values and Motives Questionnaire Measures
^ top
The scales have been selected not only for their relevance to the workplace, but on the basis of a thorough review of those values which have been identified in previous research as being important determinants of behaviour in the work setting. The questionnaire covers three broad areas: Personal, Interpersonal and Extrinsic. Personal values are those which could guide an individual’s decisions in respect of everyday problems; Interpersonal values are those which influence an individual’s approach to relationships; and Extrinsic motives are factors which effect behaviour in the workplace.
