Men in the
UK
are "more likely to take sick leave" as compared to women.
According to a new study by health insurance provider, Medicash, men
are four times more likely to be absent from work through sickness
due to work-related stress. The survey found that 20% of male
respondents admitted to having taken at least two days off work
within the last month due to worries over their job. Twice as many
men also turned to alcohol as a result of work-induced stress
compared to women.
"Workplace stress can be damaging on any
level, affecting both the employee and employer," Medicash chief
executive, Sue Weir, said. "Bosses have a duty of care and
responsibility to look after their workforce."
However, the survey also concluded that women
are more susceptible to stress-related illnesses, with 69%
complaining of regular headaches and 57% experiencing difficulty
sleeping.
